Edmeston December 31, 2006 When the sun
started to set, Sunday afternoon, Mayor Dave Kent,
was forced to cancel the snow blower races (lack of
snow). This would have been only the second year for
the races, but there were a lot of people who were
looking forward to them. Kevin and Irene Maggrett,
were here from Long Island, at their home on Wharton
Creek Road, and were looking forward to the races.
Disappointed, they decided to go back to the Island
to spend New Years Eve.
Several people who have flower beds facing the
South, tell of the early Spring bulbs pushing up
through the ground. Hope this warm spell doesn't
hurt the trees and flowers as we know there is still
a lot of Winter ahead of us.
The Bicentennial Committee will meet at the Town
Clerks Office on January 8, 2007.
The Annual meeting of the Edmeston Free Library
will be held, January 12, 2007, at 7:00 P.M. at the
library.

Edmeston December 24, 2006
With the shortest day of the year behind us, we are
reminded of the old saying "as the days begin to
lengthen, the cold begins to strengthen". We have
certainly had some unusual weather for December. The
seed catalogues are already starting to arrive in
the mail.
The Annual meeting of the Edmeston Volunteer Fire
Department, will be held January 13, 2007. All
members of active status are highly encouraged to
attend.
There are still "Flood 2006" books available at the
Bank. Proceeds from the sale of these books go to
the Bicentennial Committee to use in preparation for
the celebration in 2008 when Edmeston will be 200
years old. The books come in an envelope so can be
mailed to someone out of town. An ideal gift for
birthday, anniversary or just remembering a friend.
A note received fro the Greens (Alice & Owen)
stating they received many cards and notes when they
celebrated their 60th Anniversary. They were
surprised and pleased and want to thank everyone who
remembered them.
Edmeston December 17, 2006
The employees of the NBT Bank, Edmeston and New
Berlin Offices, enjoyed a joint Christmas Party, at
the Red Pines Golf Course, Friday evening.
If you have forgotten someone on your list, or just
need another gift, why not consider the "Edmeston
Flood, 2006" book. These books are on sale and the
bank and the proceeds will benefit the Bicentennial
in 2008.
Over 50 people took advantage of the Edmeston Rotary
Club "Christmas Project". This is an annual event
where deserving families receive gift certificates,
toys, food and clothing. Families who otherwise
wouldn't have much of a Christmas can enjoy the
season, thanks to the efforts of the Rotary Club.

and John Chesebrough.
Mayor Dave Kent was seen out checking the snow
blower track, Saturday. I understand he also had a
talk with "Mother Nature", trying to make
arrangements for snow for the New Years Eve event.
Lets see what powers he has!
Have a safe and Merry Christmas!

This is not true for the NBT Bank in Edmeston.
Thursday, a little field mouse decided to visit the
bank. After a lengthy chase, Deb and Shawn were able
to catch the little fella and return him to the
outside world.

In addition to the first Annual Edmeston Youth

starting to show some color now. Wonder with all the

this year?

Last week I reported about the Jaquay Reunion,
saying it had been held for a number of years. A
family member tells me they keep attendance records
and minutes, and that the reunion has been going for
one hundred ten years. Congratulations!

Congratulations to the Edmeston Firemen on taking
first place marching at the Otsego County Fair,
Tuesday. I understand they came in 2nd at the
County Convention. Great job fellas. John
Chesebrough was able to march with them. Perhaps
that is why they took first.
The Annual Jaquay reunion was held Sunday in
Sherburne as it has been for many years. They
certainly had a good day for it.
It seems like knee operations are in this Summer.
The latest one is Ann Schworm, who had her left knee
operated on in Herkimer. She is home and expected to
be able to return to work Tuesday or Wednesday.
Chad Goodier took part in the Demo Derby, Thursday
Night at the Otsego County Fair, and came in 3rd.
Congratulations Chad!
While listening to the scanner this past week end,
it made me realize just how lucky we are with our
Fire Departments and Emergency Squads. A couple of
times one department or squad would be out and
another call would come in, so an adjoining
department or squad would answer the call. Working
hand in hand to help each other out is a great
thing, and we are very lucky to have such
cooperation and dedicated people.
Edmeston July 30. 2006
The Turnbull reunion was held in Garrattsville,
Sunday, with a good attendance and of course great

Earlier this Spring, John and Dottie Blackman took
the older grand children to Niagra Falls and Canada.
They have just returned from taking the younger
grand children on the same trip. Both times, they
went by train. I'm sure this is something they will
always remember, I know Dottie will, especially the
"Arcade".
A note to Betty......I do remember the baby
carriage,,,,thanks!
Members of the Junior Jaquay family had a gathering
at the home of Tom and Linda Eriksen's, Sunday.
Other than a family get-to-gether, it was so Hannah
and Gavin could see everyone again as they will soon
be going back to Pa. and starting school.
Several donations have been received by the Library
toward the purchase of a new furnace. If you would
care to donate, please send it to the Library, Box

Bernie Nonenmacher is still looking for pictures of

sure to give the location of the picture (not
digital photo numbers). She would like to complete
this by late August, so an early submission would

didn't dampen the spirits of those attending a

retired justice, Leon Schworm.

Last week when I listed those who had lunch at
"Remember When Cafe", New Berlin, I omitted the name
of Betty Schriber, New Berlin. It's hard enough to
get people to give you news, and when they do, you
omit part of it. Betty is a loyal Gazette reader -
sorry Betty!
On the "Get Well" list is Joy Beeching, recovering
nicely at home after a complete knee replacement.
Linda Eriksen is also coming along after having an
operation on her shoulder.
Tom & Gert Reed, Bob & Helen Alcott have just
returned from a visit to Bemidji, Minn., where they
visited Holly, Joe & Jack Mortzhein. While in the
area, they saw the Paul Bunyan & Babe the Blue Ox

they make me feel small". On the way home, they
stopped in Mackinaw, Mich. and had dinner with Karen
& Gary Lewis (former Edmeston residents).

The pussy willows are out along the road sides. The

forecast sounds like they might just do that before
the week is over.
The nice few sunny, warm, days we had, found people
raking lawns and cleaning up outside after the

With the rain on Sunday, you could almost see the
grass turning green. Hope the leaves and spring

with the new "Stair Chair". These dedicated people
are always working to keep up with their skills. We
are very fortunate to have such a fine squad. They
will be sponsoring a "Community CPR Day" February
25th. More information about this training session
for the public will be available shortly.
The Annual meeting of the Edmeston Free Library will
be at the library building, January 13th at 7:00
P.M.
Much of the talk around Town this week was about the
snow blower races. So many people said they were
sorry to have missed them and they really didn't
understand what they were all about. A couple of
people said they would have liked to have been in
them. Guess there was interest enough so that they
will have them again next year.
Good news for the people worried about Biff Pylinski.
He did cross the finish line, just not as fast as
the others.
There will be a special breakfast at the Legion
Hall, January 22nd. Serving is from 7:00 - 10:30
A.M. This will benefit the American Legion Baseball
Team.

Edmeston - January 2, 2006
The Edmeston Free Library Annual meeting will be
held at the library building, January 13, 2006 at
7:00 P.M.
Tim & Cindy Davis, Oregonia, Ohio, were here briefly
during the Christmas Season, visiting as many family
and friends as time would permit.
At the stroke of midnight, New Years Eve, the call
went out "Snow blower Operators, start your
machines." The first annual snow blower race was on!
Blowing snow at each other while trying to get to
the finish line, found much excitement and fun.
Five racers had entered the event. They were: Dave
Kent, Jerry Vibbard, Paul Tasior, Biff Pylinski and
Shawn Pylinski. A small group of spectators were
cheering them on. At the finish line, the snow
covered operators found Jerry Vibbard lst, Dave Kent
2nd, Shawn Pylinski 3rd and Paul Tasior 4th. It is
said they are still waiting for Biff Pylinski to
come in. The first place winner was presented a
"Beautiful" trophy, donated by Jensen Speed Shop,
Edmeston. Although cold and wet, everyone had a
great time.
