Edmeston August 29, 2010
Interesting facts about August 2010: This August has 5
Sundays, 5 Mondays and 5 Tuesdays....all in one month.
This only happens once in 823 years.
With the days getting shorter and the evenings getting
cooler, we are reminded that heating season is not that
far off. Please be sure to check your chimneys and smoke
detectors. There have already been a couple of chimney
fires reported.
Recent guests of Dick and Marge Holdridge were: Nordica
and John Holochuck, Kingston, N.Y. and Darlene Hull and

dinner at the Horned Dorsett in Leonardsville. They have
dined several times at the Horned Dorsett, in San Juan.
Barry Holdridge, Scottsville, N.Y. spent several days
recently with his parents Dick and Marge Holdridge. They
enjoyed lunch Sunday at the Hawkeye Grill at the Otesaga
in Cooperstown. Barry hadn't been there since the start
of his chef's career in 1972.

Grandparents Day (Sept 12th)? Breakfast, sponsored by
the fire department starts that day, with serving from

If you drive down Dutch Valley Road, you will pass
through "Scooterville". There aren't any road signs, but
most of the neighbors have scooters, so you'll be able
to tell when you are there.....right Bill?
Time to send a card or a note! Ralph Ludington, former
Edmeston resident, graduated from Edmeston High School
in 1929. The third son born to Herbert and Edith
Ludington. He joined the army during World War II and
also served in the Korean war. Now retired, he lives in
Florida. He reads every word in the Gazette, from cover
to cover every week. His address is 9930 Sailview Court,
Apt 6, Ft. Myers, Florida 33905. Ralph will turn 100 on
September 2nd, so lets give him an old fashioned "Peet
Hook" Birthday Card Party!
Good news for Breakfast lovers! The fire department will
be starting with the monthly breakfasts on September
12th. Normally the breakfasts will be the first Sunday
of each month, but because of Labor Day, this one will
be the 2nd. Hey, its also Grandparents Day, so why not
take the Grandparents out for Breakfast? This is by
donation, held at the firehouse and serving is from 7:00
A.M. til 11:00 A.M.

With the Otsego County Fair now history and the Chenango
County Fair in progress, it won't be long before it will
be Youth Days at New Berlin. I haven't heard any dates,
but I'm sure they are planning on having it.
Marilyn Davis has been here from Lebanon, Ohio, visiting
friends and relatives. While here she toured the
Edmeston Museum and took in the Otsego County Fair in
Morris. Was good to see her again and she got to see
many old friends while here.
Marking the 100th Anniversary of the Bishop Print Shop,
Mike Lampron decided to retire and has sold the business
to David Blackman. David has worked at the Print shop for
19 years. He took over ownership as of August 1, 2010.
Best wishes go out to David as owner, and Mike on his
retirement.

The 64th Annual Otsego County Fair started Tuesday in
Morris. Weather permitting, it is expected to have a
good attendance because many families will go to the
fair rather than a vacation, due to the economy.
The old timers used to say that when the County Fairs
started it was Fall. If you have to go shopping for
school supplies, why not check the batteries in your
carbon monoxide and smoke detectors and if they need to
be replaced, this would be an ideal time to do it.
Five Boy Scouts from Troop 9 (Edmeston) attended the
National Boy Scout Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill in
Virginia, to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of
Scouting. The boys were: Jordan and Dante Cornnell,
Johnathan Dunham, Johnny Knorr and Mark Johnson. A great
experience and one that I'm sure they will never forget.
A large number of friends, relatives and yes, an enemy or
two were on hand at the Firehouse Sunday to help Guy
Carey celebrate his 80th Birthday. Happy Birthday, Guy!
Floyd Larsen is on the mend following a knee replacement
operation. He should be home soon and able to join the
coffee gang again.

I found it interesting in last weeks Gazette under "The
Early Files" the article where: Seventy years ago, July
25, 1940, a resolution by ECS requiring that teachers
reside in the district. Married teachers already
employed and living nearby will be excepted. To me this
made good sense. If they are going to take our money
(wages) why not keep some of it here by living here?
Guess the actual date is August 3rd, but to help
celebrate, there is to be an open house in honor of Guy
Carey's 80th Birthday. This will be this Sunday, August
1st at the firehouse, from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M.
Marion Pylinski has returned to her home in Virginia
after spending a couple of weeks visiting family and
friends in the area.
Megan Stephens couldn't decide what to get her
grandmother (Rosemary) for her Birthday. After
considering several things, she decided to give her a
Birthday Supper. Grandpa (Wes) cooked the meat and Megan
did the rest. It was a real treat for Rosemary not to
have to get a meal and what a nice gesture. Happy
Birthday Rosemary!
Did you remember to attend the Image Cast Voting Machine
open house Monday or Tuesday? This November, these
machines will be at the polling places and this is how
you will have to vote.
Edmeston July 18, 2010
Norton's pavilion was the scene Sunday afternoon for a
gathering honoring Don and Irene Howard each for their
80th birthdays. Son David also was honored for hitting
his 60th Birthday. Perfect weather, great food and an
enjoyable time by all. Happy Birthday folks!
Mr. & Mrs. Robert Clodfelter, Winston Salem, N.C. and
Bob Fitzgerald, Concord, N.C. toured the Edmeston
Museum, before going to the Blackman/Parker reunion,
held at the home of Ann and Denny Payne.
Some trees and wires down in Saturday nights storm.
Guess that was the worst storm we have seen this Summer.
It did produce about half inch of much needed rain for
the area.
If you go berry picking, be ware. A black bear cub has
been seen in the area of the water bottling plant.
During hunting season last year a full grown black bear
was shot around this same location, so they are in the
area.

The Red Pines Golf Course was the scene Saturday for the

The Edmeston Free Library held its bi-monthly meeting
Monday evening at the home of Dick and Lori Saunders on

humid weather, many books are being checked out.

at the ATV races scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at
the Unadilla Valley Sports Center.
I received a note from Bob & Berni Nonenmacher and will
pass it along, just as I received it: After months of
anticipation and disposing of accumulations of 45 years
in one house, we are now settled in at The Plains, here
in Oneonta. The address is: 163 Heritage Circle, Apt
200, Oneonta, New York 13820 Phone number (607)
432-3274. We miss seeing them around town, but its good
to know they are finally settled.

Weather was a great 4th of July weekend for those
camping, picnicking, relaxing or even having final
graduation parties. It's been quite awhile since we have
had a weekend as nice.
At the Rotary meeting last week, there was a change in

are: President, Dora Kirk, Vice President, Paul Schulz,
Secretary, Peg Robinson and Treasurer, Barb Fallis.
The
Burlington Flats Historical Society recently had a
program about "Pecktown" and "Summit Lake". I understand
that those attending were very interested and have since
talked to residents who were not there. There seems to
be quite a bit of interest, so this program may be
repeated in the Fall.

With a quick rain storm, the sky overcast, and a rumble
of thunder in the distance, high humidity, the 114th
Annual Commencement took place at 1:00 P.M., Sunday,

A good crowd of people were in attendance at the flag

which is adjacent to the soft ball field, was dedicated
to all who have served their school, community and
country.
Over 175 attended the 103rd Alumni Association Banquet

being open and toured that. They are looking forward to
next years banquet.

For the eighteenth consecutive year, students in the
"Morning Program" at the Edmeston Central School will
celebrate Flag Day (June 14) with miniature American
Flags presented by Gordon and Joan Terry, owners of the
Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home in Edmeston. This year
the new 5th & 6th grade band will also perform for the
students of the "Morning Program" in honor of the
American Flag and what it stands for to our Nation. The
"Morning Program" is comprised of students from
Kindergarten to Grade 2 who meet twice a week, before
the start of classes, to recognize achievements,
birthdays and other accomplishments. This year the Flag
Day presentation will be held on Flag Day, June 14th,
the last day of classes for the ECS's 2009-2010 school
year.

Friends and family turned out Sunday, at the firehouse,
to help Marge Rowlands celebrate her 80th Birthday.
Happy Birthday, Marge!
Bob & Bernie Nonenmacher have moved to Oneonta. Mr. &
Mrs. Robert Bush have bought the Nonenmacher home and
have moved in. Welcome to Edmeston folks!
Memorial Day weekend saw 20 Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts,
from Pack and Troop 9 Edmeston, at Battleship Cove in
Fall River, Mass. The boys along with their families
spent a fun filled and educational overnight on the
Battleship U.S.S. Massachusetts. They also attended a
Memorial Day service aboard ship on Sunday, during which
Troop 9 Boy Scout Zach Hume, along with a 10 year old
Sea Cadet and a 50+ year Navy Veteran, presented the
Memorial wreath. The boys would like to thank everyone
who helped make this trip possible and supported
Scouting throughout the year with Popcorn sales, the
Schwan's truckload sale and bottle drive. Many of the
Scouts also marched in West Edmeston, Edmeston and the
Burlington Flats parades.
If you call it "Old Glory", the "Red, White & Blue" or
the "American Flag", please show your support for the
United States of America by flying our Nations colors on
Monday, June 14th (Flag Day) "God Bless America"!

Don't forget the book sale at the Edmeston Free Library,
Saturday, June 5th. Lots of good reading available!
Books for teens, adults, and a special selection of
children's books. Sale hours 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.
Much credit is due to the caretakers of Union and Deming
Cemeteries. With the way the grass has been growing, it
was certainly a job to try to keep up with it. The
Cemeteries looked very nice for Memorial Day.
If you have noticed the new "Union Cemetery" sign and
have wondered about the 1909 at the top, this is not the
date the cemetery was started, but is the number to
identify the area in an emergency. Should anyone need an
ambulance or assistance, by calling 911, giving this
number, the dispatcher will be able to identify the area
easily.
Dave and Patty Green need a lot of credit for placing
the white marble stones (EFD) and mulch on the bank by
the firehouse. In the past this was done with marigolds
and looked very nice, but usually didn't get watered or
froze. This should eliminate that and looks great.
Thanks folks!
This item was received too late to get into the gazette
last week, but some people may get it in time for this
week: Wharton Valley Grange #911 invites all interested
parties to a Bake Sale and presentation by Red Cross
ABM, Disaster relief or when disaster strikes, in the
Edmeston Central School Cafe. June 3re at 7:30 P.M.

We welcome to Edmeston, the St. Alban's Anglican Church,
34 North Street, Edmeston, New York. This is located in
the former Church of the Nativity BVM. St. Alban's
purchased the former Catholic Church and after making
some changes and renovations, they held their first
service there Sunday. They have been having services in
the "Old Stone Church" Schuyler Lake, New York.
Renovations are still going on. A formal opening is
scheduled for the Fall, after all changes are made and
vacations over. Services are every Sunday, starting at
10:00 A.M. All are welcome!
Don't forget the Memorial Day Parades - West Edmeston
9:00 A.M., Edmeston 11:00 A.M. and Burlington Flats 1:30
P.M.
Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day
Weekend.
Edmeston May 16, 2010
With the sun shining, wind blowing and temperatures on
the rise, the weekend sounds were filled with lawn
mowers and people doing outside chores. The grass
certainly continues to grow, but everything is so nice
and green.
For years it has been a custom to celebrate Memorial Day
with bunches of lilacs, but this year I think they may
be a little too far gone. Mine are in full bloom right
now and I don't know if its the crazy weather or what,
but there doesn't seem to be any smell to them.
The school band has been getting ready to march on
memorial Day. They take in three parades. The one in
West Edmeston which starts at 9:00 A.M., then the one in
Edmeston that starts at 11:00 A.M. and the big parade at
Burlington Flats starting at 1:30 P.M.
As in the past, the Edmeston Rotary Club will be selling
BBQ chicken at the four corners in Edmeston, but there
is one change. Due to State rules and regulations, this
year they will be selling chicken halves only. No
dinners.

birth of their son. Austin Michael Mumbulo was born
on April 23, 2010 and weighed 7 lb 3 oz and was 19
1/2 inches long.
What a bag of mixed weather on Saturday and Sunday
(Mothers Day). When Ron & Gail Tasior left for the
South, last Fall, Gail said she wasn't coming back
until there wasn't any snow. Guess What? They got
home on Thursday in time to enjoy our Mothers Day
storm. Welcome home Tasiors!
The Annual Perennial Plant Sale, sponsored by the
women of the United Methodist Church will take place
at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Elwyn (Smitty) Smith,
corner of route 51 & 80 on Saturday, May 15th from
9:00 A.M. til 4:00 P.M. These perennials are all
from local gardens, so are accustomed to our growing
climate.
With Summer approaching, we are almost certain to
have some bad storms. Be prepared with flashlights,
fresh batteries and a battery-operated radio. Have a
corded working phone as cordless and digital phones
may not work during power interruptions.

Going way back, Brenda Starr comic strips included paper
dolls of Brenda with evening gowns designed by readers.
One such design was submitted by Bernie Nonenmacher and

Wow, April is half over! If April showers are to bring
May flowers, I think someone should tell Mother Nature
as there seemed to be a lot of that white stuff mixed
with the showers on Saturday and Sunday.
A cold wind and snow flurries didn't dampen the spirits
of Cub Scout Pack #9. Saturday morning, they were out in
full force in the bank parking lot for a bottle and can
drive. The Schwan's truck was there for a "Truck Load
Event". The scouts are to get a percentage of what
Schwan's sold. Not a good day to be out, but I
understand they did very well. The proceeds are to be
used to send scouts to camp this Summer. A big thanks to
everyone who supported them! Hope none of the scouts got
sick because there is no school this week (Spring
break).
Easter Weekend found Gene, Gloria, Billy and Tom Cole in
Indianapolis to take in the Final Four.
On Sunday, April 11th at the school, Cub Scout Pack #9
held the "Pinewood Derby". From all reports this was
great fun, but I'm not sure if the Scouts or the Dad's
had the best time. If you have a child that may be
interested in Cub Scouts or even Boy Scouts, give Lisa
Johnson a call at 965-8613 for details.

With blue skies above and the sun shining, it was a
beautiful Easter Day. For those traveling or even those
staying home, you couldn't ask for a much nicer Easter.
The Easter Egg Hunt at 2 Burdick Ave., Saturday, found
over sixty children looking for eggs and talking with
the Easter Bunny himself. Last year was very cold, but
Mother Nature made up for it this year. This has become
an annual thing, sponsored by the Firemen's Auxiliary of
the Edmeston Fire Department.
The Women of the Edmeston United Methodist Church will
be having a rummage sale at the old Legion building on
April 15th and April 16th. Donations may be left at the

sale will start on Friday, April 16th at 9:00 A.M. with
a bag sale starting at noon until 3:00 P.M.
The peepers have been out in full force lately. I
understand several people heard them a couple of weeks
ago, when we were having freezing nights, so that being
the case, they have frozen in three times, which
according to the old timers, has to happen before we can
really have Spring.
Tired of seeing the same old faces across the breakfast
table? Why not try something a little different? The
Edmeston Fire Department is sponsoring a donation
breakfast Sunday, April 11th. Serving starts at 7:00 and
runs until 11:00. Great meal, good cause!
Edmeston March 28, 2010
Just a reminder that the breakfast sponsored by the
firemen will not be this Sunday because of Easter. The
breakfast is scheduled for next Sunday, April 11, 2010,
starting at 7:00 A.M. til 11:00 A.M.
Our weather continues to be mixed up with sun, snow and
wind. Glad March is over, now maybe we can get into
Spring. The red winged blackbirds and robins have
returned and the pussy willows are out, which are all
good signs. We still have to have the peepers freeze
three times.
The Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by the firemen's auxiliary
will take place this Saturday, April 3rd, starting at
10:00 A.M. at 2 Burdick Ave. The Easter Bunny is
supposed to be there, so bring your cameras.
The women of the United Methodist Church will be
sponsoring a rummage sale, Thursday and Friday, April 15
& 16 at the Legion Hall. More information about this
next week.

These are for students in the Edmeston School district or those affiliated with the Edmeston United Methodist Church. For program descriptions and scheduling, go to www.skylakecenter.org or for further information contact Faith Smith at 965-6742.
This Sunday, March 28th is Palm Sunday - Easter is the next Sunday, April 4th.
Edmeston - March 14, 2010
Don't know if everyone is having as much trouble with the time change as I am. This goes on every year and for a few days we complain, then we forget about it. Didn't hear of anyone going into church as everyone else was coming out, so guess the clocks all got changed.
Friends and relatives gathered at the Edmeston Fire House, Saturday, for a surprise Birthday celebration honoring Peg Ross as she celebrated her 70th. Congratulations Peg!
Strong winds and some rain didn't keep the message from coming to my house. The message is that the firemens auxiliary will be having the Annual Easter Egg hunt and the arrival of Mr. Bunny himself. Details are still being worked out and a date and time should be available next week.
Edmeston March 7, 2010
Rod Bennett and Jacob, from Kentucky, were here for a short time to go ice fishing and visit family and friends. No report on if they got any fish, but they did have a good time.
Dave & Denise Andrews, Denver Colorado, have been visiting friends and relatives in the area. Terry Andrews, North Carolina, has also been here visiting.
Saturday found Fred Tilbe and Jim Mayne, busy tapping trees. The deep snow made it a little harder, but Fred said that with the crust and the way the snow has settled, it wasn't bad.
The bi-monthly meeting of the Edmeston Free Library took place Monday evening at the home of Lorraine Corts.
For those who have been supporting the Fire Department by attending the breakfasts, please take note that the next one will be on the second Sunday, due to Easter being on the first Sunday.
Don't forget when you retire Saturday night, set your clocks ahead one hour as Day Light Savings Time starts Sunday! (Mar 14th)
Edmeston February 28, 2010
As I write this, a light snow is falling, adding to
the heavy snowfall we had last Thursday. School was
closed, the County was under emergency conditions and in
general, things had come to a crawl or stopped
completely. This reminded us older folks of what Winter
was like, back when.
From all reports, we could get another blast Wednesday.
The road crews certainly did a great job with this
storm, and are prepared to do it again, if we get that
Wednesday storm.
With so many activities cancelled, there isn't much to
write about. I would like to remind the readers of the
Donation Breakfast, sponsored by the firemen. This will
be Sunday, March 7th with serving from 7:00 to 11:00
A.M. at the firehouse.
Now that we have advanced into March, keep in mind
"Daylight Saving Time" starts, March 14th. When setting
clocks ahead, don't forget to replace batteries in
battery-operated smoke alarms and carbon monoxide
detectors.
Edmeston February 21, 2010
WHAT IS AMANDA'S LAW? In January 2009, Amanda Hansen of
Buffalo, NY, age 16, spent the night at a friend's home
and was killed by fumes from a faulty boiler. The home
was NOT equipped with a Carbon Monoxide Detector. Carbon
monoxide is a silent killer. You can't smell it, you
can't taste it, and you can't see it.
AS OF FEBRUARY 22, 2010 NEW YORK STATE LAW WILL REQUIRE
THE INSTALLATION OF CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS IN ALL
RESIDENTIAL DWELLINGS. For more information on this,
check out the bulletin board in the bank or in front of
the Municipal Building.
Have you noticed how much longer the days are getting?
The sun is getting high enough so that when we do see
it, it is starting to melt the snow.
I have been told that there is about 12 inches of frost
in the ground. This could pose a problem should we get
rain as it would not be able to sink into the ground. We
could get a heavy wet snow before Spring arrives. Even
with the rain we had last Fall, the water table is down
and chances are pretty good we will get something to
help bring it back up.
The firemen's donation breakfast will take place on
March 7th at the firehouse with serving from 7:00 -
ll:00. A great meal for a good cause.
Have you checked out the fine selection of books at the
library lately? Lots of new titles and many are in large
print. Dottie would be very happy to help you find a
book that would interest you.
Edmeston February 14, 2010
The Lasagna/Ziti dinner, Thursday, sponsored by the
United Methodist Church, ended up taking in over $500.00
for the food shelf. Now food can be purchased, as
needed, rather than storing it and having it get
out-dated. Many thanks to everyone who donated or helped
in any way, and a big thanks to those who attended and
made this a big success.
Once again the call went out "Start your Engines" rang
out at Paul Jensen's Garage on Sunday. Each year, race
fans bring food and chairs to watch the race (NASCAR) at
Paul's Garage. With lots of cheering on TV and food
galore, everyone has a good time.
School if closed this week for Mid-Winter break. Hope
the weather is so that skiing, sledding and skating can
be enjoyed. So many kids don't participate in these
activities any more, guess its just easier to sit in
front of a TV or play Video games. No wonder there is so
much sickness, the kids don't get the exercise and fresh
air.
Bottles and cans are still being collected at the Bumble
Bee Redemption Center, 4 Vunk Ave. for Katie Barker
Jennings. Be sure to indicate they are for Katie when
leaving bottle and cans.
Edmeston February 7, 2010
A crisp, cold morning to go out for breakfast, but well
worth it! The second donation breakfast, sponsored by
the firemen, was very well attended and very delicious.
In case you didn't make it, there will be another on
March 7th.
A memorial is being established by Doug Bagg, in memory
of his wife, Bernadine, for the "Word of Life Camp".
Many kids do not attend church or can not afford to
attend camp. Donations will accomplish the maximum
potential for this memorial camp scholarship. More
details are posted in the bank.
A note from Marilyn Davis, in Ohio, says the robins have
returned there. She says that they look so cold and are
humped up to try to keep warm. Makes you wonder if
Mother Nature is rushing things, but guess she knows
best.
Bu the time this goes to press, we will be almost half
way through February. Now with that little bit of
information, I'd like to remind you, Day Light Savings
time starts on March 14th.
Sunday will be Valentines Day ( February 14th) Hope
everyone remembers their Valentines and have a good day!
Edmeston January 31, 2010
The bottle and can drive to benefit Katie Barker
Jennings, was very successful. Because the advertising
was late getting out for it, Kim & Kevin Rous have
decided to extend the drive for the month of February.
Bottles and cans can be left at the Bumble Bee
redemption center, 4 Vunk Ave. Please be sure to
indicate that they are for Katie. Phone number for the
redemption center: 965-8095 or to contact the Rous' at
home: 965-2396.
The United Methodist Church is sponsoring a lasagna and
ziti dinner at the Legion Hall, February 11th. This is a
donation dinner, starting at 4:30 P.M. Proceeds will go
to the Edmeston Food Bank.
Sunday morning, February 7th, you can enjoy breakfast at
the fire house. This will be the second breakfast
sponsored by the fire department. Serving from 7:00 to
11:00. A great meal for a good cause!
Edmeston January 24, 2010
Once again, the people in and around Edmeston responded
to a call for help. The benefit for Katie Barker
Jennings, was a huge success. The Red Pines Golf course
clubhouse was full. Over $3,500.00 was taken in and
donations are still coming in.
Kim & Kevin Rous are having a bottle and can drive to
benefit Katie. This will be for the month of January at
the Bumble Bee Redemption Center, 4 Vunk Ave., Edmeston.
Phone for the center is 965-8095 or give them a call at
home at 965-2396.
After a long and bumpy ride, the Gazette of January 15th
finally arrived in Edmeston. If you buy it at the store,
you got it on time, but if you subscribe to it, you had
to wait for delivery as that bag went to Florida. Sure
hope someone doesn't charge by the mile!
We are rapidly approaching February 2nd (Ground Hog
Day). This is supposed to govern our weather for the
rest of Winter, but think we will take what Mother
Nature sends.
The first breakfast sponsored by the Fire Department was
very well attended. The second breakfast will be Sunday,
February 7th at the fire house. Serving is from 7:00
A.M. to 11:00 A.M. This is a donation breakfast and for
a good cause.
Got your EURO sticker yet? These are available from any
Rotarian or are in the local stores. They represent
either Burlington or Edmeston.
Edmeston January 17, 2010
If you subscribe to the Gazette, and wonder why it was
late last week, the post office said the bundles were
marked wrong. Our mail bag went to Florida while the
ones intended for Florida, came here. By the time this
goes to press, we should have them back, but there will
be a little delay because of no mail on the 18th (Martin
Luther King Day).
Congratulations go out the Grandpa and Grandma Tasior
(Ron & Gail) as their son Terry and his wife Kathy have
a nice new baby boy, born January 4th in Florida.
Our weather seems to be like a yo yo (up & down).
Saturday was just a great day with sun and warmer
temperatures. No doubt that was our January thaw.
Usually after that we can expect a cold snap with snow.
It is quite noticeable that the days now are getting
longer (Think Spring)!
I don't know if its the weather or what, but I don't
seem to have the variety of birds at my feeders. It's
fun to watch them and try to identify them.
Edmeston January 10, 2010
To put everyone's mind at ease, the rumors are true!
Yes, I have a new addition to my household. Having lost
my faithful companion of 14 years, I have now adopted a
new puppy. Believe me, being a single parent ain't easy!
The Annual meeting and dinner for the Edmeston Fire
Department was held Saturday evening. Officers for the
coming year are: Fire Chief, Mike Hume. 1st assistant
Lauren Waite, 2nd assistant, Kevin Rous. President,
David Green, Vice President, Rick Benjamin, Secretary,
Bob Simmons and Treasurer, Steve Goodrich.
The Annual meeting of the Edmeston Free Library was held
Friday evening at the library with the following
Officers Elected: President, Priscilla Turnbull, Vice
President, John Blackman, Secretary, Lorraine Corts and
Treasurer, Leon Schworm.
If you have been putting off going to the library to
check out a book because you are afraid the print is too
small, don't let that hold you back as the library has a
nice selection of LARGE PRINT books. Check them out!
Edmeston January 3, 2010
I hate to say it, but it's true! I for one am glad
the Holidays are over. Guess it was because Christmas
and New Years came on Friday. I wasn't sure on the
weekend what day it was. Like having two or three
Sundays in a row.
With a cold strong wind and snow falling, the firemen
held their first public breakfast and it was very well
attended. Guess when it comes to eating and helping a
good cause, the public responds very well. The next
breakfast will be Sunday, February 7th.
The Annual meeting of the Edmeston Fire Department will
be Saturday, January 9, 2010, with the department
meeting and election of officers at 5:00 P.M. followed
by dinner at 6:00 P.M.
Final plans for the "Katie Barker Jennings" benefit are
taking place. If you have any questions or would like to
help in any way, call Candy @965-8052. The benefit is
from 1:00 to 4:00 at the Red Pines Golf Course, January
10, 2010.
